A Patient's Guide to BMDC Verification: How to Check if Your Doctor is Licensed

Why Medical Licensure Verification Matters

In Bangladesh, only individuals holding registered medical degrees (MBBS or BDS) recognized by the Bangladesh Medical & Dental Council (BMDC) are legally permitted to practice modern medicine, prescribe controlled pharmaceuticals, and perform surgical operations.

Checking a doctor's BMDC registration protects patients and families from uncertified quacks and fraudulent practitioners.

BMDC Registration Number Standards

**Allopathic Physicians (MBBS / Postgraduates):** Registration numbers begin with the prefix **`A-`** followed by 4 to 6 digits (e.g., `A-48219`, `A-70787`).

**Dental Surgeons (BDS):** Registration numbers begin with the prefix **`D-`** followed by 4 digits (e.g., `D-6241`).

**Where to Find the Number:** By law, registered physicians must print their BMDC registration number on the top or bottom of every official prescription pad.
